One project ive seen in many iterations that always catches my eye is string art. Hammer pins or nails into your surface along the edge of your design.
Tools for string art projects.
What type of nails to use for string art. I prefer to use white nails they are panel nails because i like the way they look with the white string. Im a word nerd and a font snob so diy art projects that use words and typeface are kind of my jam. Make a customized name word picture or state with nails and some thread super easy and cute.

Remove your paper or stencil once you have all the nails in place then weave colored string from nail to nail. In the minnesota heart project example the designer looped the thread from the minnesota outline to a nail making the heart shape.
Loop the thread from one nail to a nail across the project. Google state nail string art for a visual. Tip from crafts direct.
If you didnt hammer in the nails in a straight line when you wrapped the string its pretty noticeable. If you only have 2 nails on one side you wont be able to criss cross as many times as you would if you had 10 nails. If you want the strands perfectly spaced.
I use 1 inch nails but you can use any size you like depending on how many times you wish to wrap your string. Another cool idea is to do one of your state with a small heart where your town is. You can also use a pre made stencil.
How far apart to set you nailsthe more nails you havethe more full your string art will be. To do string art on canvas or wood cut out a design from a piece of paper and attach it to your surface. Thats all you need for string art.
But again this is just personal preference.
